Automotive

Car photos are kind of like opinions. Everyone has them, and most of them suck.

Ferrari shows make for good composition. Red cars, red fans.

Maybe that’s a little harsh, it’s probably a little self-deprecating, but it’s definitely true. Try scrolling though an Instagram search for #automotivephotography, #porsche, #supercar.

The place is inundated with people practicing, sharing, re-posting, and hocking their “car feature” services. It. Is. Everywhere. And most of it is terrible. Most of mine is terrible.

But I love to do it. I spend hours on weekends going to car shows, race tracks, and prowling the proverbial killing ground of classic and rare cars — foo-foo coffee shops.

While I do dream of becoming an automotive photojournalist, my sights are set on a lower bar at the moment: simply growing my skills as an automotive photographer.

In my ever continuing self education my goal isn’t necessarily to make money, but to develop a style of photography that is true to the subject. Whether that be a rusty Datsun or a perfectly manicured Italian super car.
